When your pet is acutely and seriously ill, your veterinarian needs to be able to get diagnostic answers rapidly and accurately. This is where having the ability to do diagnostic laboratory testing in house becomes very important.
Most of our lab testing is sent out to a commercial laboratory because it is cheaper than doing the work in house. However, the results take 24 hours or more depending on the test and day they are submitted. So we do have the ability to do most critical tests in house. Most routine wellness and monitoring of chronic conditions are sent out to keep our cost to clients low, but if the need is for immediate answers we have the ability.
If you have questions about a specific test your pet is having, the following document explains what most of the common tests cover. This can be downloaded and printed out for you to refer to at home.
